The Hermanus Botanical Society (BOTSOC) would like to encourage all members and visitors to be extra vigilant and careful when visiting Fernkloof Nature Reserve especially at the Visitors Centre. The Law Enforcement and Protection Services at Fernkloof Nature Reserve cannot be everywhere all the time.
Please make sure that you lock your vehicles and do not leave anything visible in the vehicle. It is also recommended that hikers walk in Fernkloof Nature Reserve in groups, do not wear jewellery, watches, and do not take expensive equipment along. Muggings and an assault on the Cliff Path, have taken place recently and the South African Police Services believe these could have been perpetrated be by one of the hundred and twenty two parolees released in Hermanus recently. There has been a marked increase in crime statistics by six per cent on last year.
Remember that you can call HPP at all Hours at 028 312 4900, Law Enforcement at 028 3138996/5. Warrant Officer J.P. Mathee can be contacted at 028 3123206 at the Hermanus Police Station. Enjoy your walks but please be careful and vigilant. BOTSOC is constantly encouraging the Law Enforcement and Protection Services to be more accountable and visible in Fernkloof Nature Reserve, and we certainly hope this will be forthcoming in the future.
