Hacking – From the Archives

Belle Barker wrote this article for Herbs of May 2002 and has dug it up and asked me to publish it.

I certainly recall being part of a very active hacking group when we first retired to Hermanus.  Around ten of us would get together once a month under the guidance of Bob Hill and tackle the aliens in the Mossel River and surrounding areas.  I actually used to count how many plants I personally removed each month and reckon that during the period that we operated, I took out around 60 000 aliens.  What the group did as  a whole can only be imagined, but just think what the area would have looked like had this work not been done!
